Hidden Homelessness
Hidden homelessness is a critical yet often overlooked aspect of housing insecurity, making it challenging to allocate resources effectively. Unlike visible homelessness, which includes individuals living on the streets or in shelters, hidden homelessness refers to those who are "provisionally accommodated." This group includes people couch-surfing, temporarily staying with friends or family, sleeping in cars, or residing in motels and extended stays. While unsheltered homelessness tends to receive more public attention and funding, hidden homelessness remains vastly underrepresented in resource allocation and policy solutions.
