DeKalb County is investing $8 million to purchase 60 apartments specifically for families living in extended-stay motels and experiencing housing instability.
How It Works
The Park 500 apartments in Stone Mountain will provide fully furnished, move-in-ready, 1–3-bedroom units. County officials plan to start moving families in by December 2025.
Location: Near Memorial Drive at Hambrick Road in Stone Mountain, with MARTA bus routes 117 and 121 within walking distance.
Getting Help
DeKalb's Community Development Department will handle applications and placement. The program targets families currently living in extended-stay hotels; research shows over 100 families are staying in just two motels in DeKalb County.
Placement will be coordinated with local organizations and agencies, though specific application details weren't provided in the announcement.
What's Included
Residents will receive wraparound services through the Housing Authority of DeKalb:
- Job assistance and employment support
- Childcare coordination
- Case management
- Support services to help transition to permanent housing
Funding and Sustainability
Any income generated from the program will go into a dedicated fund to help subsidize housing costs for other housing-insecure families and expand support services. Contact DeKalb County's Community Development Department for more information about eligibility and applications.
