LIFT 2.0 is a comprehensive homeless response plan aimed at addressing homelessness in Atlanta by housing 1,500 households by December 31, 2024. This initiative, which began in the summer of 2022, involves collaboration among private entities and city and state departments to provide sustainable housing solutions for individuals experiencing unsheltered and chronic homelessness.
Encampment Mitigation
The program has also made significant strides in mitigating encampments. 797 individuals have been housed since the inception of LIFT 2.0, and 38 encampments have been addressed through collaborative efforts with local authorities such as the Atlanta Police Department (APD) and the Department of Public Works (DPW).
Housing-First Approach
LIFT 2.0 employs a Housing-First approach that prioritizes placing individuals into stable housing before addressing other issues such as employment or health care needs. This method has proven effective, with 54% of participants exiting to positive destinations, significantly higher than the national average of 25%. Furthermore, only 8% of participants have returned to homelessness, which is considerably lower than national average
As of the latest reports, LIFT 2.0 has exceeded its initial goal by successfully moving 1,850 households into permanent housing, surpassing the target set for the end of 2024. This achievement reflects a strong commitment to reducing unsheltered homelessness in Atlanta through strategic partnerships with various stakeholders, including city agencies and community organizations.
